Bowling Tips to Improve Your Game

By Jamie Hollie

There are several ways you can improve your bowling, particularly if you adhere to some bowling tips. Some of these bowling tips include knowing the conditions of the lanes on which you will be bowling, owning your own bowling equipment, using bowling accessories, making adjustments to your stance and release, and practicing as much as you can.

Your bowling equipment plays an important part in determining your bowling skill. First of all, you should always bowl with your own personal bowling ball. Using an alley ball does not allow you to get a good grip on the ball because the holes are not drilled to fit your fingers. When you buy your own bowling ball, the thumb and finger holes are measured and drilled to fit your fingers and thumb. This allows for a good grip on the bowling ball. Additionally, you can buy a weight that is comfortable for you. When using an alley ball, the choices may not include a ball weight that is right for you.

You should also buy your own bowling shoes that are measured to your size instead of renting bowling shoes at the bowling alley. It is important that your shoes fit well in order for you to make the right approach to the bowling lane.

Knowing the condition of the lanes on which you will be bowling is important. If the lanes are oily, your bowling ball will not move as well and you will need to make adjustments to your stance and release. If you know the maintenance schedule at the bowling alley, you should try to bowl when the lanes are dry because your ball will move much easier and you will not have to make adjustments for the lanes.

The real secret to a good bowler is practice; this is one of the best bowling tips. As they say, practice makes perfect. The more you practice, the more familiar you become with your bowling equipment and how to approach the bowling lane.

While bowling a high score is fun, it is better to be consistent. It is nice to have a high average, but it is even better to be able to bowl the same or almost the same score every time. This leads people to want you on their team because they know they can count on you.

There are some accessories that help you bowl better. These include tape inserts that you place inside the finger or thumb holes in your bowling ball to allow a better grip. A bowling towel is essential because it allows you to keep your hands dry as well as to wipe any oil off your ball that has accumulated from the oil on the bowling lanes.

Whether you throw a straight ball or a curve ball, you need to know how to make adjustments to your bowling when you are not bowling well. Knowing when to move your feet one or two boards to the left or when to move your release one or two spots to the left is an essential skill.

Wearing comfortable clothing when you bowl can improve your ball release. If you are wearing a shirt that does not move when you throw the ball, it can cause you to jerk your hand and lose your mark.

Bowling can be tremendous fun. If you follow these bowling tips, your skill and your score will improve.
