Using a Golf GPS System for Golf

By Camilla Ricketts

The game of golf can be frustrating even for the pros sometimes, not to mention us amateurs. One of the most aggravating for a beginning golfer is not having confidence in your club choice. Choosing the wrong club for your shot can cause you to overshoot or fall short of your target. A golf gps system helps with this by taking some of the guesswork out of your club choice.

Pros have a caddie on tour to calculate the distances for them and help them in their choice of club. I don't know about you but I won't be hitting the pro tour anytime soon but I still want to do what I can to improve my game.

In between markers on the fairway has always been a problem for me. I just can't judge distances well by sight. I generally end up using too much club and overshoot the green by quite a bit. So frustrating when if I had just known the correct distance it would take several strokes off my game, and those add up. After using a gps for golf on my local course I've almost eliminated overshooting. I know the correct distance to the green on any given hole on my local course which really improves my game. It is really helpful on unfamiliar courses and those darn holes where the green and pin are out of sight or over a rise.

A big improvement in my game came from knowing accurately the distances I hit with each club. Quite a humbling experience to begin with as we always like to think we hit farther than we really do. Knowing my distances has helped me by allowing me to concentrate on grip, stance and follow through to increase my flight distance.

Another benefit of golf gps systems is faster game play. When you're not spending a lot of time trying to figure out distances to choose your club you play faster. Not to mention the elimination of overshooting the green so much. Increasing my playing speed allows me to play more rounds and I'm all for more golf.
