Understanding the Sugar Buster Diet

By Deen Dragonovich

It can be difficult keeping up with all of the diets out their today, but there is one diet that is gaining increased attention from the media and dieters. It's called the sugar buster diet. Basically, the diet lasts for two weeks. During the two weeks, all sugar is eliminated. Dieters are expected to follow a diet of 30% protein, 40% fat and 30% carbohydrates.

It is not common knowledge how sugar affects our systems and health, but the more sugar we consume means the more insulin our body creates and insulin is what inevitably stops people from losing weight. This fact has been under great scrutiny for many years, whether insulin does in fact add to weight gain. It is true that too much sugar and insulin can lead to heart disease but it has not yet been confirmed that abstaining from sugar can help you lose weight.

Reviews and professional opinions about the sugar busters diet is that the diet may work for some people because of how many calories are in sugar related products, not how much insulin it creates in our systems. This is a debate that will continue for many years to come but the fact is sugar is not good for us and whether it is the calories or the lack of insulin, sugar buster's can work for you.

The major problem with the sugar busters diet is that is only lasts for 14days. As with any diet that has a time limit such as this, it can be hard to know how to continue with your diet and food choices once the diet span is over. If you have lost weight you may want to continue on with the diet for the long term but this may be difficult when put into affect for more than two weeks.

If you want to eliminate sugars from your diet, you should avoid the following: honey, molasses, corn syrup, refined sugars and soft drinks that contain sugar. Be sure to read ingredient labels and shun all foods containing these ingredients.

Some of the foods are you are able to continue eating include: whole grain breads and pastas as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. As you can see there is a reason this diet is restricted to 14days because it may not be incredibly healthy to continue excluding so many different food groups from your diet for the long term.

Diets that are intended to be temporary are called fad diets, and they do not have a high success rate. Short term diets result in short term weight loss. What is needed, therefore, is a long term healthy eating plan that can be followed for a lifetime.

Yo Yo dieting is not healthy. Once you lose weight, you will want to keep it off forever. So, change your lifestyle. Adapt a new, healthy way of life, and you will be rewarded for it.
