Fitness Strategies that Executives Use

There three kinds of professionals in the world: those who love to live a healthy lifestyle, those who dont know how to do it, and those with no intention of doing it. It is not completely the fault of the second type that they do not engage in exercise as often as they would like. There is a general lack of education in regards to fitness and for the busy professional, lifestyles are to blame. It is part of the way of life - deskbound and overweight.

Healthy Professionals

As a Senior Media Consultant for Coca-Cola, Andrea Brown, a 32-year old graduate, lives a healthy lifestyle compared too many professionals:

"I make very resolute food choices. I try to eat healthy food in reasonably portions"

Not only that- Brown uses stairs often and finds every opportunity to be physically active. It doesnt take much to take the load off the cardiovascular system. Just moving about and avoiding shortcuts like escalators and elevators can make your heart that much stronger.

Use the environment around you

Andreas neighborhood is near a bunch of small hills. Whenever she can, Andrea puts on her walking gear and engages in high intensity power walking. Her trips around the small hills take an average of 30 to 40 minutes at a time.

Andrea Says:

"There are a lot of steep hills in my area; the walk can be quite tough"

Pregnant women, start moving

Denita Thompson-Maclin took up aqua exercises when she fell pregnant. Thompson-Maclin, who is a senior media consultant from Burrell Communications was worried of the threat of diabetes and preeclampsia.

"I was not exercising before I got pregnant. I thought I might as well try to do something, so I started [aqua aerobics] in my second or third month. The exercise really helps. We do jumping jacks and run in the water. There's no way I could do that before."

Commercial Diets

If you want to engage in a diet, make sure that you review first the literature before you start munching on those pre-manufactured foodstuffs. Diets like Atkins and South Beach work for particular body chemistries only.

High fat diets have been known to cause kidney issues, while low carbohydrate can cause dizziness, nausea and fainting spells. In general it is best to consult your Doctor and get his/her opinion on whether the diet will be beneficial.

Be cautious of commercial diets claiming secrets that the doctors or government hate. These are often snake oil sales men, and if you do lose weight fast it is very likely you will put it back on as soon as you stop it.

Chances are, the government and the doctors dont even know about the commercial diet before its launching. And even by then the government or the Food and Drug Authority would only be interested if the product had been examined and pre-approved before distribution and shipping.

The only drug that has been approved by the medical establishment is the chemical drug named orlistat, which is now being marketed under several brand names. Most other diet pills have very little, if any, evidence to support their claims of weight loss. In most cases you will be better off saving your money.
