Doga - An Affordable Way to Deal with Stress in a Bad Economy

By Kera Balard

As 2009 began many Americans who had made resolutions to increase, enhance and improve their physiques faced the same challenging hurdle; a struggling economy supplying them with a less-than-supplied bank account! As we all know, gym membership can be expensive and without the needed income to maintain gym membership, working out can often find itself on the backburner. And without exercise the stresses and wear & tear on the body that a down economy can cause, can sometimes lead to depression, a lack of motivation and increased weight gain. However, there are still affordable ways to prevent the potential woes of a down economy; believe it or not, Doga!

Doga is a simple exercise routine that individuals can enjoy at home. No expensive gym memberships, no expensive classes, no added stress of having to drive to the gym. And let's face it, regardless of how close a gym is or how inexpensive gas has become, we all need to conserve our gas when we can. And that's what makes Doga the perfect solution.

Many people often think of the physical benefits when thinking of Doga and traditional Yoga. But did you know that Doga has many different stress-reducing advantages? History has shown that a down economy can result in increased stress and even depression among many individuals, and that's why it is so important to find stress-relieving practices during these times. Many studies and individuals have stated that traditional Yoga actually helps them reduce and manage their stress. Doga offers the same advantages.

Doga is beneficial because it introduces dogs to traditional Yoga. Most people do not realize that dogs naturally perform their own versions of Yoga, and because of this, they become great Yoga partners. Additionally, studies have also shown that people who frequently spend time with their dogs are generally able to manage stress better.

In addition to saving Doga participants money by creating a workout routine they can enjoy at home and reducing the stresses often felt during a down economy, Doga has many more advantages; Doga can assist in the improving of sleeping habits, it can lower blood pressure, reduce muscle tension, improve bodily ailments and more. Additionally, doga can even improve the behavior of your dog!

One Doga question still remains; how does one learn a Doga stress-reducing routine? Prior to 2008 the only way one could participate in Doga was to attend a class. These classes were often very expensive and would increase stress because the dogs would often misbehave. However, in 2008 Amy Stevens, a Doga instructor created the Amy Stevens' Yoga4Dogs DVD, and made it available to the public!

Doga has shown to be a new and affordable approach to reducing stress and staying fit during diffuicult economic times. It's less expensive than a month-to-month gym membership and you can perform the routine at home whenever a little stress reduction is needed!

During these times of a struggling economy, we all need to make sure that we take the time to properly manage our stress. Doga certainly has the potential to reduce stress in a down economy. Whether your dog is big or small, Doga can help you both reduce your stress and help you stay happier and healthier!
