This group recommends the DASH diet as a beneficial eating plan for people with hypertension and for those with "pre-hypertension" who desire to prevent high blood pressure.

An overdose of magnesium might result in paralysis of the respiratory system and severe low blood pressure. The heart and nervous system might be affected; profuse sweating, hypothermia, etc might be the reactions of excess of magnesium.

While magnesium deficiency can be seen through symptoms, most do not detect such nutritional deficiency. In this case magnesium deficiency testing should be regularly administered.

Finally, one of the reactions that are involved in cholesterol production is called rate-limiting reaction, as it keeps control of the amount of cholesterol manufactured. The rate-limiting reaction requires magnesium, which can cause cholesterol to continue to be manufactured beyond the cells control if magnesium is unavailable, resulting in cholesterol buildup.

Since there is little regulation over who can and cannot offer supplements for sale, there are few guarantees regarding the quality and potency of the ingredients used. Whether the ingredients are synthetic or derived from natural plant sources is also important, as the latter have been scientifically proven to be far more effective.

For all those who suffer from hypertension, magnesium supplements can help them to deal with it. In addition, healthy and balanced diet containing magnesium will help to deal with magnesium deficiency.
