3 Myths About Growing Taller!

By Rodney Williams

Over time, just about any subject has stories surround it that can be considered myths or legends. Something gets said once, gets picked up by someone else and expanded upon, and down the line it goes until you have a full blown myth. The subject of growing taller has also developed its own myths over the years, and we'll debunk three of them here in this article.

Myth #1 - There's no relationship between height gain and dieting - We know how important our diet is in promoting growth and maintaining a healthy body, and yet for some reason we don't consider it to have any effect on our height.

Diet does play a role in height though, giving our bodies the fuel it needs to grow, in some cases even well after puberty has hit and our growth phase is considered to be at an end. Whether it be vitamins, protein, calcium, or other nutrients, without these vital components in our system, we simply will be unable to reach our full potential.

Myth #2 - Smoking - It's a fairly common legend that smoking will inhibit growth. Many people staunchly believe this, while others aren't so sure. So is this one fact or fiction?

Wellthis one's still debatable, hence why the two sides are still so evenly split. Tests have been numerous, and have shown no conclusive evidence that smoking stunts growth. Whether this is due to test subjects being beyond their growth spurts already is undetermined. The fact is that smoking releases harmful and invasive toxins into your body, which have a negative effect on most every bodily function they come into contact with. Maybe it won't directly inhibit growth, especially if the smoking is begun past the growth spurt as mentioned, but it certainly can't help.

Myth #3 - Exercise won't increase height - Here's another one that is quite commonly entrenched. In fact many people wouldn't even consider it a debatable question. Are they correct?

Not so. In fact this one isn't even debatable, as numerous studies have shown that limbs can be stretched out through repeated use or exercise, and that by doing so, height gain can be achieved, even in grown adults who should've long since stopped growing.

One myth proved to be tough to break down, but we've all but closed any debate on the other two. So if you're looking to gain height through natural methods, you're armed with better knowledge to help you reach that plateau.
